We've changed the game time and time again to provide our students with the best and most innovative programming to nurture success and artistic growth. We've found the implementation of class with resident directors to be extremely beneficial and successful for our students.

This series is designed for those students who know they're right for specific shows and can't seem to get in front of the right people, those who'd like to work with the most influential up and coming directors, and those who want to better themselves to get their audition right and on point. The Resident Director Series is helmed by TGS's Steve Edlund. Steve will coach students on material from the shows targeted, if a student is not right for all three shows, Steve will assign material in the vein of the show or material that shows the performer in the best light for upcoming projects the guest artist may be working on. Steve is the assistant director to four-time Tony winner Jerry Zaks. You want to go in front of these professionals in the best possible light, and this is where Steve excels!

Each Resident Director Series will utilize two individual directors and shows. We do our best to group similar directors/shows to get the most bang for your buck.

Prior to class, material from the shows will be assigned to you
based on your preference, vocal type, aesthetic, and
where we think you are most useful and marketable.

Coaching with Steve
Students will work one-on-one on coaching material from the shows for the guest artists.
This will enable students to feel most comfortable and prepared
when going in front and working with the resident directors.

Resident A

Students will work on material one-on-one with Guest Artist A.
There will be a Q & A if time allows.

Resident B

Students will work on material one-on-one with Guest Artist B.
There will be a Q & A if time allows.

Steve Edlund is the assistant director to four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks. Steve's credits include Sister Act (Broadway, 1st National Tour), Randy Newman's Harps and Angels (Center Theatre Group), and Ain't Misbehavin' (Center Theatre Group). He is a 2009 graduate of USC where he received his B.A. in Theatre and co-founded Musical Theatre Repertory, USC's student-run musical theatre company.
